An Insight on What Matters!
Last week I made a poll on social media asking people about a specific topic. I asked, “If your
mother would be selling her home, what would be important for her?”. Interestingly, it went in a
different direction than I had hoped. I initially intended to understand what would be important
for them in their new home-- would they want to live simpler, have a house with a yard for their
grandkids, or would they also want condo-living, or live an upscale life than before. Instead, a
new perspective has come into the light and reminded me of what we, Real estate agents,
should never forget!
It was heartwarming to see all these answers saying that their mothers would want the new
owners to make good memories in their old house just like they did some answered that they
would like the new owners to take care of their old house, and some even have unique requests
of how they wanted to preserve the sentimental value of their previous house.
Hearing their answers reminded me of why I even started my career in Real Estate! This is
exactly how our Job becomes more meaningful and special, because although we cannot
always satisfy all of their demands, being able to give them a new house that they can call their
home and being with them throughout that process is life-changing!
We should remember that we are working with people here. People care a lot about their home
and even consider their sentimental value whether it was their first home ever purchased or
whether it was passed down to them through different generations.
Every house has a story to tell, and every owner has fond memories of the home they are going
to sell. As their partner, it is such a privilege to be able to accompany them through this
emotional process.
As a result, we should always take into account how they would feel and what they would like to
experience, and then ask ourselves how we can do that for them as much as possible, making
sure that they find their ideal home.
