5 Tips to Furnish a Small Space

Small living spaces can be tricky because you want to be comfortable and stylish and is it really possible to be both at the same time? Try the tips below to maximize your space and style!

1. Use texture! - Choose a smaller sofa/chaise for your living space but pick one that's tufted or velvet to add style. You can also add texture in your linens, drapes, and throw pillows. Don't be afraid of high pile textures!

2. Allow the light in - Pick tables and furniture that have glass inserts to make the space look bigger and not over crowded. Let the light into the windows with light and sheer curtains. The more light, the bigger the space will feel!

3. Don't be afraid of color - Just because the space is small, doesn't mean it has to feel like a hospital (stark and white).  Use bold colors and wallpaper to create an accent wall or dimension in a small space.

4. Mix the expensive items with cheaper ones - Pick one or two good quality, expensive pieces and mix them with other items from Target, Walmart, or consignment.  This will tie the room together and add some of your personal flair to the space.

5. Don't cover your floors - A small area rug is fine but don't cover all your beautiful floors with large rugs that will make the space feel small. If you hate your flooring and can't afford to replace it, try to paint it for a temporary solution. If you have carpeting that's worn or in poor condition, rip it out yourself and replace it with inexpensive laminate or vinyl until you can afford a more hardy option.

I hope these tips help! Happy decorating!
