What's That Smell?
Let's talk about the smell of your home!
Scents invoke memories and can instantly make you happy, sad, hungry, or nauseous. A specific scent can make you feel comfortable in your home and a guest feel welcomed. As a Realtor I can tell you that scent is one of the first things we're going to address when prepping your home for sale. No matter how updated or gorgeous your home is, if it smells like must, pets, or smoke, it's going immediately turn away most guests and/or buyers if your prepping to sell.
There are SO many methods to scent your home. Here are few of my fav's and some pro's and cons.
Candles - I LOVE a good candle. One that holds scent, doesn't throw black soot, and has a long burn time. My favortite candles come locally from Get Wick'd, I'll tag the link below. Obviously I can't keep candles burning 24/7 so they aren't an option that's going to give me longevity.
Room Spray - I use room sprays mostly for my linens. I like to spray my bedspread before getting into bed and also my towels etc. This is also not an option that's going to provide long-lasting scent.
Warmer Pots - I have several warmer pots around my house. I replace the scented wax bars in them about once a week and I feel they are a great option for long lasting scent. The downfall of these is that inevitably, the dog is going to bump into it, spilling wax all over your floors which is a quick way to throw a damper in your day and wax is not pleasant to remove from walls and carpeting.
Febreeze Small Spaces - These are great little pods that I keep all over the house. They don't spill or leak and they last about 30 days before I need to replace them. Link below.
Water Filled Diffuser - I despise these mostly because whatever they sit on gets soaking wet and they have destroyed pieces of furniture. They do have beautiful and decorative options and the scents are typically organic oils that can offer more than just scent. I love them for other reasons, but not for scenting your home.
Fan Diffuser - I prefer the diffusers that don't use water to throw scent. I have one from Scentsy (link below) that is also portable and fits in my cupholder, which as a Realtor is a great thing because there are days I'm on the road a lot!
Those are some of the options for disbursing scent I keep in my own home, I didn't even talk about the flavors that I prefer but if you're wondering, in the warmer months I like sea/oceanic scents and in the cooler months I like vanilla/cinnamon scents.
