Preparing for a Continuation of Working/Teaching from Home!
It's time that we get our home space ready as we prepare for another season of working and teaching from home. If you have to be home, you might as well enjoy the space you're in!
- I know it's tempting to want to close yourself off in another room where it's 'quiet' and you can focus but if that room doesn't have good natural light, choose somewhere else! I set up my work desk right in front of a huge window in my living room. I need that natural light and vitamin D to keep my spirits up! It will do wonders for your morale. If you have the space - set your kids desks up around yours but give them headphones. This way it's still quiet but you're readily available if they have technical difficulties...or they just need a snack.
- Make sure your desk is as organized as possible. Keep your pens together in a mug, keep your papers filed and have your house plants front and center! House plants will also boost your morale and general air quality.
- I like to have light music and scents while I'm working. I typically have my Scentsy warmers going with a light breezy scent and 90's jams pumping in the background to get me motivated! I'm a high-energy person so I need that stimulation! If you prefer a more relaxed environment, use lavender scents and softer/classical music or even white noise.
- Take a lunch break at home!! Go for a walk, throw in a load of laundry, or scrub that bathroom. Whatever you do - take a break for at least 30 minutes to an hour so you can refresh and re-focus.
I don't have any good advice on balancing teaching and working from home because I'm struggling myself. Lean on your neighborhood and talk to parents of other school-age kids so you can vent your frustrations and share what is and is not working in your homes.
The only way through it - is through it. You got this!
